Melanie Badour

Hi! I’m Mel

A dedicated & experienced Registered Psychologist, #5373, with the College of Alberta Psychologists. I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in self-doubt. I specialize in supporting teens and adults navigating anxiety, perfectionism, stress, burnout, and trauma. I help clients move through school, work, and life transitions with greater clarity, confidence, and resilience. Together, we work to quiet your internal alarm and shift from survival mode into a more balanced, grounded state.

Clients often describe me as approachable and easy to open up to, appreciating the way I combine warmth with direct, honest communication. I take pride in being both a compassionate human and a thoughtful professional, encouraging clients to show up as their true, unfiltered selves.

My approach is trauma-informed, rooted in neuroscience, and draws from a range of evidence-based modalities, including EMDR and cognitive-behavioral therapies. THERAPY FOR ANXIETY

Your thoughts are not facts!!

Anxiety is your body’s alarm system. As a function of the nervous system, it communicates through physical sensations such as chest tightness, nausea, a racing heart, muscle tension, shortness of breath, fatigue, or a sense of dread. When the body and brain are focused on survival, clear thinking becomes difficult, often leading to repetitive and unproductive overthinking.

You may have tried to challenge your thoughts or use positive thinking; however, anxiety cannot be resolved through thinking alone. Patterns such as overthinking, overanalyzing, and anticipating worst-case scenarios can intensify anxiety, keeping the body in a fight, flight, or freeze response. Even during periods of rest, there may be an underlying sense of alertness, as if preparing for something to go wrong.

Chronic anxiety can lead to avoidance, procrastination, feelings of paralysis, and a sense of being stuck. It is important to recognize that anxiety is not a personal flaw, weakness, or failure. Although the mind may signal that something terrible is imminent—and these signals can feel very real—they are not often rooted in reality nor do they define your capacity.

The first step is to regulate the body’s alarm response. When your body is calm enough, it becomes easier to think clearly and respond to challenges in a more effective, logical way. Instead of getting stuck in “what if…” thinking, you can shift toward “even if…”, which helps you feel more prepared and resilient.

Once regulated, a helpful guiding statement may be:
“I can handle this—this moment, this day, this challenge.”

It’s OKAY to mess up, make mistakes, pivot and grow sideways!
